What is Title 24 Energy Compliance?

The Energy Efficiency Standards for Residential and Nonresidential Buildings were established in 1978 in response to a legislative mandate to reduce California's energy consumption. The standards are updated periodically to allow consideration and possible incorporation of new energy efficiency technologies and methods. New standards were adopted by the Commission in 2001 as mandated by Assembly Bill 970 to reduce California's electricity demand. The Energy Commission adopted changes to the Title 24, Parts 1 and 6, Building Energy Efficiency Standards on November 5, 2003. These new Standards become effective on October 1, 2005. Included in the changes to the Standards are new requirements for outdoor lighting. Cool Roof Coatings Performance Requirements - amendments to Sections 101(b), section 118(i)3, table 118-C, and Appendix 1-A became effective September 11, 2006.
